Hiking with friends on Boulder County Open Space

My History

I have lived in Boulder County off and on for most of my life. Born in on the East Coast to a Danish immigrant father (electrical engineer) and an American mother (nurse), I spent most weekends on the family farm of my grandparents, visiting our huge family. My public school was filled with children from a wonderful mix of all races and ethnic groups. New York was where they landed, but New Jersey was where they lived. Our family moved to Denver when I was seven. I graduated from CU-Boulder and lived in Boulder for a total of about seven years before moving to the San Francisco Bay Area for fourteen years, where I could ride the bus to work and hear Spanish, Chinese, Russian, Japanese, Tagalog, and many other voices. I am used to and cherish the incredible diversity of the coasts in age, gender and gender identity, race and ethnic group, religion, and ideology.

I have lived in Longmont for over 30 years in the same little yellow house in Westside Old Town, where my son attended Central Elementary, Westview Middle School, and Longmont High. We settled in Longmont, attracted by the natural beauty and the agricultural heritage that my family has shared for hundreds of years. Growing up in a family business and having run my

own business for nearly a decade, I have a keen appreciation for the challenges and triumphs of small businesses in Boulder County, where currently I am working at Boulder’s best beloved hardware store. I enjoy strolling along the beloved St. Vrain River with my son and hiking our wonderful local and statewide trails with friends and family.

Meeting with Senator Michael Bennett to discuss Longmont’s flood recovery.

Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller to address the issues of poor housing. This wonderful organization has provided a pathway to home ownership for millions of people using sweat equity, financial education, and volunteer labor. I have been honored to be a small part of the building of several homes. And I got over my terror of nail guns!
